Liturgy of the Word with Children
The Church follows its Master, who "put his arms around the children...and blessed them"(MK 10:16)

Directory for Masses with Children
Liturgy of the Word with Children is a wonderful ministry in which adults guide young children in their intrinsic love for and understanding of God's Word. The children are dismissed from the 10 AM Mass, and are engaged in the Proclamation of the Sunday Readings, a breaking open of the Word on a child's level. The songs also deepen their understanding of God's message of His powerful love for them.

In addition, bulletins are available for children to take home after all of the Masses. These colorful bulletins are available on a preschool, kindergarten, first, second and third grade level, They offer a variety of activities that draw children closer to the Gospel message for the week, and help them to carry it with them in their daily lives.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
"From the time of the apostles, becoming a Christian has been accomplished by a journey and initiation in several stages". It always includes "Proclamation of the Word, acceptance of the Gospel, profession of faith, Baptism, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and admission to Eucharist communion."
- The Catechism of the Catholic Church

The RCIA is the process by which baptized and non-baptized adults from other traditions enter into full communion in the Catholic Church. Contact the Religious Education Office at 724-935-0877, if you or someone you know is interested in becoming a Catholic.

Sacramental Formation
Infant Baptism is celebrated on Sunday at 1:30 PM by appointment only.

Expectant parents attend a preparation class, which is held on the third Wednesday of every other month. Please call the Parish Center at 724-935-4343 to register.

First Penance is celebrated during the Lenten season for children in the second grade. Children begin formal preparation for the celebration of the Sacrament of Penance in the first grade with a more focused study and formation in the second grade. Parents of second grade children attend a formation session prior to their child's First Penance.

First Holy Communion is celebrated during the Easter season for children in the second grade. All children begin formal preparation to share in the Eucharist in their first grade year. In second grade, this formation is intensified. Children are required to attend two-years of religious education/faith formation prior to reception of First Communion. Parents attend a formation session prior to their child's celebration of First Communion.

RCIC or the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children is a process for children above the age of seven (7), who have not received First Penance or Communion. During this formation process, children will come to know Jesus through the scriptures and will be prepared to receive the sacraments.

Confirmation is celebrated every year during the fall semester. Young people receive formation within their religious education classes or parochial school religion classes during the seventh and eighth grade years. It is the policy of the Diocese of Pittsburgh that young people receive two full years of formation prior to the celebration of Confirmation. Other aspects of formation for Confirmation include service work, a retreat in the spring or summer prior to Confirmation and research on his or her chosen Confirmation name.
