Music Ministry
Saint Alexis Parish has a diverse music program which offers a wide range of opportunities for musical expression.
Traditional Choir
The Traditional Choir enhances the 10 AM Sunday liturgy
with sacred music from classical, traditional and contemporary
styles of choral music. They are also called upon to
provide music for special celebrations throughout the
liturgical year. The traditional choir rehearses on
Thursdays from 7-9 pm in Church.
Children's Choir
The Children's Choir is open to all children from third
through eighth grades. They sing at several masses throughout
the year, including First Communion Masses in the spring.
In learning music for the mass, they receive training
in music, singing and liturgy. The Children's Choir
rehearses on Wednesday afternoon from 4 to 5 PM in the
Church.
Lifeteen Band
The LifeTeen Band consists of teens and young adults who work with the Youth Ministry Program at Saint Alexis Parish to provide modern, upbeat musical praise at the 6 PM Sunday evening mass. The Band is comprised of singers and a rhythm section (drums, bass, guitar and keyboard). The LifeTeen Band practices on Sunday afternoons at 4 PM.
Handbell Choir
The Handbell Choir is comprised of 11 members ringing
three octaves of Mallmark handbells. The Choir rehearses
on Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 pm in the Emmaus Room. The
ringers play at Mass to highlight feastdays throughout
the liturgical year from the Feast of Christ the King
through Pentecost. Music reading skills are required
for this group.
Resurrection Choir
The Resurrection Choir lends their voices in prayer and song at all parish funeral liturgies. There are no regularly scheduled rehearsals for this group. They meet 30 minutes prior to a scheduled funeral to prepare music for the Mass. Members of the Resurrection Choir are contacted by telephone for each liturgy.
Contemporary Choir
The Contemporary Choir uses modern music styles to lead the sung prayer at the noon mass on Sunday. Singers and instrumentalists from the sixth grade and up are welcome. The Contemporary Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings at 6 PM in the Emmaus Room located on the lower level in the Rectory.
Cantors
The Cantors are a very important part of the Music Ministry Program. They lead the congregational singing at all masses. A good voice with the ability to read music is required. Cantors rehearse as schedules permit.
Instrumentalists
Instrumentalists (brass, strings, etc.) are always welcome to add to the existing musical groups on a regular basis or for special liturgies. There is a particular need for a pianist for our Contemporary Choir and LifeTeen Band.
For more information about our Music Ministry Program, please call Mrs. Mary Rita Rossetti at 724-935-4343 Ext.226 or email Mary Rita at music@stalexis.org.
