The Key Objectives for the Development Plan for St. Alexis are to:
- Develop a plan that best uses the existing facilities in anticipation of building a new worship space.
- Support and encourage the shared use of resources and the integration of programs throughout the parish to foster strong parish life.
- Consider the current and planned improvements to the school, the impact and opportunities afforded by the purchase of the property at 80 Orchard View Drive, and the known deficiencies in the location and
function of existing programs and facilities.
- Develop a site plan with easier access, meeting current safety standards, and improved parking facilities with better traffic circulation.
- Develop architectural guidelines for upgrading and unifying the appearance of the existing buildings, as improvements are made, by building on the design of the new church.

To properly address these challenges, Integrated Architectural Systems, Inc. (IAS) was commissioned in the summer of 2002 to create a strategic plan that includes the improvement, development and possible expansion of facilities, including a new worship space. With input from the parishioner survey, listening sessions, Pastoral Council, Finance Committee, and meetings with St. Alexis staff and faculty, this long-range planning document links the improvements and renovations that the parish has already made with the work needed to address deferred maintenance issues and program needs.
Goal
Our goal is the Fulfillment of the Promise that was made over 40 years ago: to take full advantage of the St. Alexis property as driven by the needs of the parish. The strategic development plan is critical to achieving our goal. To complete the entire plan a total of $12 to $15 million will be needed. Despite the wide ranging benefits and potential construction cost savings inherent in undertaking the entire project, the plan will be implemented in phases. Please note that the phases as outlined below are not definitive, and will be reviewed and prioritized in response to the commitment and generosity of our parish family.
Phase I
The first phase is the largest portion of the overall plan. It entails construction of a new church with related site work that includes demolition of the existing rectory, and minor renovations to the newly acquired property on Orchard Place to serve as a temporary rectory. Positioning the new church in a more central location on the property will enhance its community presence and ensure its prominence on the parish grounds.
This phase will also address the most critical needs of our school including the work already completed in Leonard Hall; conversion of the existing church into a family center/gymnasium; four temporary classrooms in the lower level of the new church; imminent infrastructure improvements to the school building including replacement of the roof, and repairs to the heating and electrical system.
The parking lot will also be expanded and reconfigured to eliminate circulation problems.
Phase II
This phase will address those aspects of our school that are essential for keeping pace with the requirements of a progressive and vital education, and to meet its long-term facility needs. The work in this phase will include an administrative wing with one central point of access; construction of four additional classrooms in a permanent structure to be located between Leonard Hall and the existing church building; replacement of the heating system and adding air conditioning, facade renovations and additional storage facilities in the education center - school.
This phase will also complete all necessary work in the new church that was non-essential in Phase I.
Phase III
The addition of a parish office wing to the
new church; renovation of the lower level
of the church into meeting rooms and a
large gathering facility/banquet hall;
construction of a new rectory and
converting the Parish Center into a
Youth and auxiliary services center
are all encompassed in this final phase.
Funding
Funding for the first phase as outlined
above will require $6.6 million.
Accomplishing this plan for improvement,
development and expansion will take the
cooperation and support of the entire
St. Alexis family.
Looking to the future, we can envision
St. Alexis as an even more vibrant
community of faith. By creating new
facilities in response to its ministries,
organizations and programs, St. Alexis
will continue to grow and flourish for
generations to come!
